Situated on the extreme southwest of the island Elafonisi is a beautiful lagoon which due to the seas currents and storms changes annually. It is the first landfall for Spring migrants.
Summer sees the area crawling with tourists, whilst Spring, Autumn and Winter can be ideal for solitude and peaceful birding.
The area is now ( 2013 ) being really well managed with information about the importance of the area. Plants and trees are now being protected by good fencing against the goats and sheep, whilst the floor area has wooden walkways to stop erosion and encourage people to keep to the paths.

Below are several images of the area and plant life
