From Nikos.......A drive towards Sfakia revealed distant sightings of Bearded Vulture, Griffon Vulture, Golden Eagle, Imperial Eagle, Common Buzzard, Kestrel, and Sparrowhawk...
A very nice Pied Wagtail (ssp yarrelli ) and a possible Caspian Gull, found at Souda by Nikos also...... Passing through Souda: Grey heron, Little egret, Great egret, Common buzzard, Cormorant, 2 Sandwich terns, 2 Coots, Moorhens, Kingfisher, Common sandpiper, Common redshank, Yellow-legged gulls and groups of Meadow pipits and White wagtails.

Spotted eagle still around Kournas area , may be last years overwintering bird back again.
Over the weekend Nikos spotted Squacco Heron still at Agyia, while at Moronis: Kingfisher, Great Egret, Little Egret, Grey Heron, Yellow-legged Gull, Common Sandpiper and two Redshank

Some of the birds seen: Pygmy and Great cormorant, Grey heron, Coot, Moorhen, Little grebe, Kingfisher, Peregrine, Buzzard, Griffon vulture, Great spotted eagle, Yellow-legged gull, Teal, Pochard etc... Some friends got luckier and even saw Bonelli's eagle, Black stork and Lapwing... My focus was on the Black-necked grebes...

After a few weeks travelling we are back with some reports from the island.
A couple of birds we spotted and watched for hours in the Peloponnese, birds that we would love to see on Crete !!

MEANWHILE BACK ON CRETE

There have been a good few sightings of Spotted Eagle near to Agyia in the last two weeks.
One today present near Kournas Lake along with Black Kite and a Bonelli's Eagle.
Yesterday a couple of Black stork and a Lapwing near Kavros.
Record numbers of Black Kite on the island this year mostly in the Heraklion municipality.
Great bittern at Agyia also a few late Squacco Heron to be found.
On the 1st November 22 Crane ( Grus grus) sighted over Knossos.
Short-toed Eagle also being seen.
Hopefully Nikos and Alan will send some of their images for the weekend
